Texas Roller Derby bout between the Cherry Bombs and Holy Rollers at the Palmer Event Center in Austin, Texas on August 10, 2019.
In 2001, Austin’s Downtown music scene gave birth to the new roller derby revival. A spectacle from the very beginning, Texas Roller Derby has continued to reflect what makes Austin so unique - our dedication to spontaneous, subversive fun combined with a spirit of mischievous competition. We just managed to throw a contact sport, on skates, into the middle of it!Texas Roller Derby bout
TXRD is proudly sports entertainment, with a dash of cheeky chaos. We train hard and work tirelessly to improve our skills and agility on the track so we can beat the other team and entertain our constant crowds! We’re rowdy by nature and we fight sometimes…okay, we fight a lot. What can we say? Our philosophy is to channel real-life stress and fire into the game and "leave it on the track."
Skaters range from ages 21-50 and come from all walks of life to form TXRD’s five bouting teams - the Rhinestone Cowgirls, Las Putas del Fuego, the Hellcats, the Holy Rollers and the Cherry Bombs - as well as the Hired Gun$, an alternate squad that produces the derby stars of tomorrow. As a business, we are skater & production owned and operated. We are DIY all the way - we make our own uniforms, produce our bouts, run our marketing and media streams, and sell our merch. Hell, we even built two banked tracks from scratch! We get up early to build the track before every game and stay late to tear it down, pack it up and bring it home.
Our plans for the future are big and our dreams are bigger, but always include staying close to you, our fans. We’ve got the Thunderdome Training Facility where you can train to be a banked track skater or attend open skate nights with the teams. We keep things going in the off-season, hosting underground bouts with retired stars and try out new penalties. We also rent our space to other roller derby teams throughout each week - juniors, men’s and flat track included. We support all types of roller derby and we’re proud to say all 1500+ worldwide leagues began with us, right here, in Austin, Texas!
