The No. 2 Texas Volleyball team came from behind against University of California – Santa Barbara take the match; 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 18-25, 25-18,15-10), to move on to NCAA Volleyball Championship Regional Semifinal, the 14th-straight round of 16 appearance for Texas.
With wins over Albany (3-0) and UCSB, the Longhorns will serve as host for the regional semifinals on Friday, Dec. 13 with a chance to advance to the regional finals on Dec. 14.
Junior Logan Eggleston led all players with 22 kills, hitting .426, eight digs and four blocks, while senior Micaya White added 17 kills, nine digs, five blocks and a block.In the middle, sophomore Brionne Butler posted her first career double-double with 14 kills and a career-high 11 blocks. The middle hit .522 for the match.
The freshman duo of Skylar Fields and Asjia O'Neal put down eight kills and four blocks and six kills and three blocks, respectively.Sophomore Jhenna Gabriel led the team with a career-high 54 assists, five digs, one block and one kill. On defense, senior Claire Hahn led the team with career-high 15 digs and six assists. Sophomore Sydney Petersen added nine digs in three sets.
Senior Autumn Rounsaville, who entered the match in the fourth set as the libero, contributed five digs. This marked her first collegiate appearance in the libero jersey, playing the fourth and fifth set in the position. The win over UCSB marked the Longhorns first five-set victory of the season.
Texas is one of two teams that has reached the NCAA Round of 16 fifteen times in the last 16 seasons. Penn State is the only other school to accomplish the feat. The Longhorns will take on Louisville, who upset the 15-seed Western Kentucky, 3-2, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Friday evening. The Longhorns and Cardinals will square off on Friday, Dec. 13 at Gregory Gym with the time to be announced.
