Texas football forced overtime against Kansas but falls 57-56 after a Jayhawk two-point conversion at DKR – Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. Xavier Worthy put up historic numbers after recording 14 receptions, one shy of the Texas single game record, and countless UT freshman records in Saturday's loss. The freshman finished with 152 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Kansas began Saturday night's scoring with a three-yard rush to the right to take the 7-0 lead. Added another touchdown with :36 left in the first quarter off an 11-yard pass from Jalon Daniels to Mason Fairchild. Kasey Thompson connected with Marcus Washington on a 25-yard pass to cut the score in half for the first Longhorn score of the game. Hudson Card went 3-for-3 on the drive in passing resulting in a 33-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Worth. Worthy's touchdown was the ninth of the season and broke a 22-year old Texas record held by Roy Williams for most by a freshman in a season.
Daniels put Kansas back on top with a nine-yard rush to the right to go up, 21-14. Kansas forced a Texas fumble on the Texas 23 yard line and went on to score off a 19-yard pass to Devin Neal to go up 28-14. Jacobee Bryant picked off Hudson Card and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 35-14 into halftime. Longhorns started the second half with a 10-play, 65 yard drive, resulting in a one-yard rushing touchdown by Thompson to cut the lead to 35-21.
Kansas added its fifth touchdown of the night from a 10-yard rush from Devin Neal to give Kansas a 42-21 lead. Thompson connected with Bijan Robinson on a 25-yard pass with 3:50 left in the third quarter to bring Texas within 14 points (42-28). Texas took advantage of a blocked punt from Marcus Washington and added seven more points from a connection between Thompson and Worthy for seven yards. Kansas led 42-35.
Jayhawks added a two-yard touchdown pass go back up by 14 points (49-35) in the fourth quarter. Thompson led Texas down the field for 91 yards and connected with Worthy for the third time on Saturday to cut the lead to 49-42. Worthy had 12 receptions and tied the UT freshman single-game record and tied the Texas freshman receptions record with 47 and eclipsed the Texas freshman receiving yards record with 819 yards.
Texas tied the game at 49 with :22 left on the clock off a 25-yard pass from Thompson to Cade Brewer. Texas went into overtime for the first time this season and scored on the opening drive off an eight-yard pass to Marcus Washington to take its first lead of the game, 56-49.
