The Texas football team sent the seniors off on a high note after defeating Kansas State, 22-17, on Friday afternoon at the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.
Texas opened the scoring on Saturday driving 75 yards off 10 plays, capped by a Roschon Johnson nine-yard rush. Casey Thompson went three for three in passing on the drive. It's the first opening drive touchdown for the Longhorns since Baylor and first time Texas scored on the opening drive since the Oklahoma State game.
After forcing a three and out, Kansas State picked off Thompson on its 32-yard line and drove down the field off seven plays and finished the drive with a nine-yard rushing TD to even the score at 7.
Thompson connected with Cade Brewer for his eighth career touchdown (tied for the fourth-most in Texas history) off a 10-yard pass. Cameron Dicker missed the PAT and Texas led 13-7. Will Howard broke free for a 71-yard rushing touchdown to give Kansas State its first lead of the game, 14-13.
Kansas State's Chris Tennant drilled a 51-yard FG to give the Wildcats a 17-13 lead. As time ran out in the first half, Cameron Dicker converted a 24-yard field goal to bring the score within one, 17-16. Dicker connected on a 39-yard FG to give Texas back the lead (19-17) with 1:52 left in the third quarter. He later added a 22-yard FG make to extend the Longhorns' lead to 22-17.
