The University of Texas University Fashion Group originating in 1970, the annual fashion show for Textiles & Apparel Design students have evolved over the years. It was previously held at the Frank Erwin Center, and as it grew in scale and prominence, the number of people in the audience grew, as well, reaching about 5,000+ each year.

The current show, University Fashion Group Presents: The Capstone Collection, has seen even more changes. The typical title and responsibilities of a show director have been transferred to the UFG student organization, allowing them creative freedom over every aspect of the show, from scouting venues to casting models to creating marketing materials. The organization is composed of a diverse range of students across campus, bringing together a variety of disciplines needed to orchestrate the show.

The UT-Austin student designers presented their capstone collections, showcasing the crowning achievements of their design work. Designers have ideas to which they dedicated their time and energy, utilizing their creativity and skills to bring their ideas to life. The show allowed students to demonstrate their skills and capabilities. As up-and-coming designers, this also offered the opportunity to engage with a large audience beyond UT-Austin.

This year’s twenty designers worked under unique circumstances to each craft a 5-piece collection. Each designer drew upon various sources of inspiration to create, design and produce collections that showcase their creativity and construction capabilities. When these independently fashioned pieces are integrated, a unified fashion show is born.
