Collective Soul is originate from Stockbridge, Georgia and is a combination of alternative, hard rock and post-grunge. The group currently consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett.
Lead singer, Roland, is responsible for the band’s formation in the early 90s. He has worked in the music scene since the mid 80s, performing and making demos in his home town of Stockbridge. He started recruiting musicians in order to put a band together and throughout the years, the line-up of Collective Soul changed radically, with members coming and going until Collective Soul was made of the line up we see today.
The band’s breakthrough came early in their career: in 1993 their first official single ‘Shine’ became a mainstream hit and led to them being signed by Atlantic Records, a leading record label company. Following this surprise hit, Atlantic records quickly released the band’s first demo, hoping to cash in on their sudden popularity. The album was a success and went on to achieve double platinum status.
Since this early success, Collective Soul have gone on to achieve enormous mainstream recognition. They have since recorded seven Number one rock hits. Some of their most famous singles include ‘Breathe’, ‘Wasting Time’, ‘Gel’ , ‘December’ and, of course, smash hit ‘Shine’. In 2004 the band created their own independent music label, El music Group, that allowed them greater control over their music and what they released. The band received an enormous honor when they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
After experiencing two power outages, Collective Soul came out dominating the stage. I’ve said countless times before that Collective Soul has to be one of the most underrated bands of all time and Ed Roland has got to be an underrated frontman. The energy he brought and the crowd engagement made it to be a very entertaining show. While the band may not be all original members, that’s soon forgotten as Johnny Rabb on drums killed it with his performance. Jesse Triplett also is a great guitar player. As a lot of legendary bands start to get older, Collective Soul still sounds like they did from almost 30 years ago. Even the new songs they played sounded refreshing and great to rock out too. Definitely recommend seeing them!Setlist for the show at the ACL Live Moody Theater
Great show, the band sounds just like 30 years ago when I first saw them. Never knew why they are not in the top 10 of the all time great American bands.
Collective Soul, great band, great performance, great concert.
Show was everything you were looking for. Band was in good form and played all their memorable songs with energy. Sound man was a little heavy on the bass. Light show was great as well.
What an experience. As a Collective Soul fan since 1995, I had a fantastic time at the show. So much energy and love.
Fantastic show. Both opening acts were incredible! Collective Soul was outstanding too! Even when the electricity went out multiple times during the night, the bands did a remarkable job of recovering and keeping the show moving. we will absolutely be seeing them again the next time they’re in town.
