Slipknot was formed in 1995 by local Des Moines musicians Shawn Crahan and Paul Gray. The pair brought on other local musicians and started to experiment with their sound. After self-financing their debut album “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.” in 1996 and failing to pick up any major attention, Slipknot changed musical direction and added melodic vocals to their music. The band also went through many line up changes before settling on the core nine members of the group: Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor.

This new musical style and strong set of band members attracted the attention of Roadrunner Records who signed the band for a seven-album deal. The band’s first album on the label, “Slipknot”, was released in 1999 and did favourably on the US album charts for a first album. Nonetheless, the album went on to eventually be certified platinum after the band’s extensive touring schedule picked up hoards of fans between 1999 and 2000.

This large fan-base proved vital with the release of the band’s second album, “Iowa” in 2001, which shot to number one in the UK album charts and hit number three in the US.

Slipknot’s popularity and mainstream success has earned the band recognition from multiple awarding bodies such as the Kerrang! Awards and even the Grammy Awards after the band’s 2005 single “Before I Forget” from their album “Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)” won them an award for Best Metal Performance.

Inspired by the likes of Black Sabbath, Metallica and Led Zeppelin, the band has put its own chaotic stamp on the genre of nu metal. Slipknot is a band that is prepared to constantly experiment and evolve, and their fans love them because of this.
Knotfest is Slipknot’s own self-curated, destination festival brand, currently held in four international locations; the US, Japan, Mexico, Finland, Germany, Colombia and Brazil. Designed as an immersive, unforgettable, ‘dark carnival experience’, the event invites you into Slipknot’s apocalyptic underworld where stunning visuals, fire breathers and nightmarish creatures on stilts set the stage for an intoxicating and memorable weekend of live music.
Such an amazing show! I saw Slipknot in at Ozzfest in Detroit and was excited to see them again. Their stage show was bar far the best stage show I have ever seen and I've been going to concerts for 35 years! I loved the scale of the stage and the different levels. The light and pyro show was killer! I was 2 people away from catching Jim "F'n" Root's pick and 2 rows from catching a drum stick. Can't wait to see them again!

Best concert I have ever been to and I have been to a lot. First time seeing them with my 15 year old son (his very first concert) and it was freaking grand. Love love love. Great show. Great effects. Best.

Great experience. Ice Nine Kills and Crown the Empire where great. They set the energy for Slipknot. Slipknot was awesome. They played a lot of old and some newer songs.

Amazing performance by all. The concert was amazing and every performer gave it their all. I honestly came for Slipknot but became a fan of Crown the Empire and Ice Nine Kills after this show. The energy everyone put out was intense and Slipknot delivered on everything I was expecting and more. One of the best concert going experiences I've had so far! Hope Slipknot comes back through here again!

Best freaking concert I’ve ever been to! So chaotic and literally felt like everyone had lost their mind the whole concert! I love getting to meet other Metalheads and go freaking crazy with them at concerts! Literally 10/10 for me!
