Big Thief's fifth album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, is out now on 4AD. Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You is a sprawling double-LP exploring the deepest elements and possibilities of Big Thief. To truly dig into all that the music of Adrianne Lenker, Max Oleartchik, Buck Meek, and James Krivchenia desired in 2020, the band decided to write and record a rambling account of growth as individuals, musicians, and chosen family over 4 distinct recording sessions.

In Upstate New York, Topanga Canyon, The Rocky Mountains, and Tucson, Arizona, Big Thief spent 5 months in creation and came out with 45 completed songs. The most resonant of this material was edited down into the 20 tracks that make up DNWMIBIY, a fluid and adventurous listen. The album was produced by drummer James Krivchenia who initially pitched the recording concept for DNWMIBIY back in late 2019 with the goal of encapsulating the many different aspects of Adrianne’s songwriting and the band onto a single record.

“One of the things that bonds us together as a band is pure magic," says Adrianne. "I think we all have the same guide and none of us have ever spoken what it is because we couldn’t name it, but somehow, we are all going for the same thing, and when we hit it... we all know it’s it, but none of us to this day, or maybe ever, will be able to articulate in words what the 'it' is. Something about it is magic to me.”
This show was intense, in the best way possible. Their music is compelling, intelligent and really fun live. Also, bonus shout out for the crowd which was 100% there for the music. No sloppy drunks to be found.

Big Thief never disappoints. Every time I see them, they sound even better than they do on their albums (which is really frickin good). Their high energy is contagious, the lighting design is flawless, and their spirit is one to be envied. I should've arrived earlier for a closer view, but 10/10 will see again!

It was amazing! Big Thief were very nice to the audience and their performance was awesome.

It was so good. They rocked hard and soft and I sobbed during Change. I can’t remember them playing it now because I was sobbing too hard which is kind of unfortunate. They ended on Spud Infinity and it was fantastic.

Incredible! Amazing, therapeutic, and heartfelt. Exactly everything you’d want and expect from this phenomenal gang of magic makers.

Wonderful, absolutely one of my favorite shows I’ve ever been to.
