Texas Roller Derby (TXRD)
In 2001, Austin’s Red River District punk scene gave birth to the new roller derby revolution in the form of Bad Girl Good Woman Productions by the SheEOs Anya Jack, April Herman, Heather Burdick and Nancy Lynn.
A spectacle from the very beginning, TXRD has grown into the perfect blend of the “Keep Austin Weird” attitude and a freewheeling pursuit of fun and competition. Skaters range from ages 21-45 and come from all walks of life to form the league’s five teams - Holy Rollers, Hellcats, Putas del Fuego, Cherry Bombs and Rhinestone Cowgirls. TXRD is skater owned and operated and each member plays a roll in the continued success of the league. Our plans for the future are big and our dreams are bigger.
Roller derby is equal parts sport and entertainment, with a dash of sass. We train hard and work tirelessly to improve our skills and agility on the track. TXRD skaters are spunky by nature and we fight sometimes…okay, we fight a lot. What can we say? We love what we do and we are grateful to be able to share the experience with our fans.
Since 2005, TXRD has hosted many guest trainers as well as held invitational games and scrimmages with other leagues, including the Renegade Rollergirls, LA Derby Dolls, and the Charm City Rollergirls. We have even hit the road to take on our opponents across state lines as well as scrimmage our fellow Texas leagues. In 2008, we headed out to Los Angeles to compete in the first ever Battle on the Bank Invitational and hosted the tournament the next year.
