No. 6 Texas Volleyball picked up its second-straight sweep, taking down Rice, 25-16, 25-21, 25-15, on Monday night at Gregory Gym. The Longhorns (4-2) have a big week at home and will turn their attention to hosting No. 19 Ohio State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and No. 11 Washington State on Friday at 7 p.m.
Madisen Skinner had a breakout match, finishing with a season-high 19 kills with a .417 hitting percentage. Bella Bergmark also added seven kills on just nine swings and had four blocks. Jenna Wenaas chipped in five kills, while Asjia O'Neal and Molly Phillips each had four kills.
Ella Swindle dished out 33 assists to go with five digs, four kills, three blocks and two service aces. Emma Halter led the back row with 13 digs and added eight assists, while Carissa Barnes had 10 digs and two assists.
The Longhorns started slowly and the first set was knotted at 4-4 before Texas took command with a 12-2 run. Skinner had seven kills on 10 swings to lead the Longhorns to the 25-16 first set win.
Rice scored the first two points of the second set before Texas went on an 11-1 run to pull in front. The Owls made it close with an 8-2 run to trim the Longhorns' lead down to just 16-14 but Texas was able to close it out 25-21.
In the third set, Texas jumped out to a big 7-1 lead and never looked back. The Longhorns finished off the match with 25-15 win while hitting .412 in the set. (Source: UT Athletics)
