No. 5 Texas Volleyball pulled off the reverse sweep of No. 20 Baylor, 21-25, 27-29, 25-11, 25-11, 15-10, on Thursday night in front of another sold-out crowd at Gregory Gymnasium. The Longhorns (15-3, 10-0) will square off with the Bears again on Friday at 7 p.m.
Madisen Skinner posted her sixth double-double of the season with 22 kills and a career-high 19 digs. Jenna Wenaas finished with her highest kill total as a Longhorn, posting 20 kills, with 15 coming in the final three sets.
Ella Swindle had a career-high eight kills, while also dishing out 42 assists with 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Asjia O'Neal and Molly Phillips each had eight total blocks, while O'Neal finished added seven kills.
Emma Halter led the back row with 15 digs, while Keonilei Akana added 12 and Carissa Barnes had 10. The Longhorns started slow and trailed the entire first set before falling 25-21. Texas was able to make it close late trimming the lead to 22-20 but the Bears closed it out on a 3-1 run.
After Texas had a great start to the second set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, Baylor rallied to take an 11-7 lead. The Longhorns then used an 8-2 run to grab a 17-16 lead. From that point, the teams went back-and-forth all the way to the end with Baylor pulling out a 29-27 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Longhorns had a big bounce back in the third set, cruising to a 25-11 win while hitting .324 in the set. Wenaas led the way in the set with six kills on 14 swings.
Texas had another dominant performance in the fourth set, rolling to another 25-11 win to send the match to a fifth set. The Longhorns hit .406 in the fourth set and had five total blocks. The Longhorns closed out the match with a strong fifth set, leading almost the entire way to win it 15-10. (Source: UT Athletics)
