Chelsea Wolfe, dubbed "the queen of gothic industrial guitar" by Guitar World, defies genre boundaries and crafts unique sonic blends. Alongside long-time collaborators Ben Chisholm, Jess Gowrie, and Bryan Tulao, she wrote and honed the songs for "She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She." In 2022, producer Dave Sitek joined the team, pushing the tracks into unexplored territory before refining them. Final touches came from Shawn Everett (mixing) and Heba Kadry (mastering), sculpting intricate vocals and weaving them into a rich soundscape where heavy guitars melt into trip-hop breaks and hushed vocals soar.
The second single, "Whispers in the Echo Chamber," blends elements from Wolfe's previous work, transitioning between minimalist synth and powerful full-band moments. The swirling vocals, processed through Sitek's modular wall, represent the internal voices urging us to shed the old and embrace the new. As Wolfe sings in the intense track, she's "twisting the old self into poetry" and "bathing in the blood of who [she] used to be."
The accompanying video for "Whispers in the Echo Chamber," directed by George Gallardo Kattah and filmed in Colombia, explores a personal journey. Wolfe explains it as "a love story between myself and my sleep paralysis entity," symbolizing an inner voice that cuts through mental noise and guides her towards authenticity. This entity represents possibilities, urging her (and us) to take the first steps towards a new path.
At its core, "She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She" is about navigating change. It delves into letting go of the past, embracing the unknown, and discovering the potential within. Wolfe leads us on this journey, asking introspective questions that resonate with her own experience. The title itself, "She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She," is a call to introspection, reminding us of our inner strength. It's a call to connect with different facets of ourselves, with others, and with the larger world, acknowledging the present moment as all we truly have.
Fan reviews:Setlist for the show at the Scoot Inn
Excellent concert, Chelsea Wolfe is a powerful artist that should be known by more people, great voice and presence, made me wish the concert was longer.
The Chelsea Wolfe concert was one of our favorites that we've been to. Her vocals were spot on and the music was heavy. If you have the opportunity, she is a must-see artist.
I've seen many shows, this was undeniably the best. Amazingly tight performance and the power of the show was just magical. The full intensity of the music doesn't come out on the records you have to see her live to experience it.
