The Texas Longhorns swept Indiana, 25-8, 25-21, 25-22, in a sold-out home opener at Gregory Gymnasium on Thursday. Prior to the match, the Longhorns celebrated their 2023 National Championship with a banner ceremony.
Texas showcased their dominance throughout the match, hitting at a .385 clip while holding Indiana to a .074 hitting percentage. Madisen Skinner led the way with 14 kills, five digs, and two aces, contributing significantly to the Longhorns' victory. Reagan Rutherford also impressed with nine kills and a .538 hitting percentage.
Marianna Singletary's defensive prowess was on full display, as she recorded a team-high four blocks and added eight kills. Emma Halter contributed to the win with her all-around play, including nine digs, seven assists, and four service aces. The Longhorns quickly established control in the first set, cruising to a 25-8 victory. Their impressive serving and hitting, combined with strong defense, overwhelmed Indiana.
In the second set, Indiana fought back and took an early lead. However, Texas rallied to tie the score and ultimately secured a 25-21 win. The third set followed a similar pattern, with Indiana starting strong before Texas regained momentum and closed out the match.
