Ernest Keith Smith, better known simply as Ernest, is a rising star in the American country music scene. Having honed his songwriting skills over the years, he has penned hits for renowned artists such as Morgan Wallen, Jake Owen, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, and Chris Lane. His talent and dedication have propelled him to sign a recording contract with the influential label, Big Loud.
Ernest's musical journey began with an early fascination with hip-hop. The iconic Space Jam soundtrack and a gift of Eminem's music from a friend ignited his passion for the genre. However, a significant health scare at the age of 19, a heart attack triggered by a viral infection, and subsequent struggles with drug addiction temporarily derailed his aspirations.
After overcoming these challenges, Ernest returned to Nashville, determined to pursue his musical dreams. Collaborating with Matt Royer, his brother-in-law and studio owner, he began crafting songs in the popular Bro Country style. This partnership led to a breakthrough moment when he co-wrote the title track for Florida Georgia Line's acclaimed album, "Dig Your Roots."
Embracing his unique blend of country and hip-hop influences, Ernest released a series of country rap singles, including "Dopeman" and "Bad Boy," showcasing his versatility and artistic vision. His songwriting prowess continued to flourish as he penned hits for Chris Lane and Jake Owen, ultimately leading to his well-deserved signing with Big Loud.
Ernest's journey with Big Loud has been marked by significant achievements. He embarked on successful tours with Chris Lane and Mason Ramsey, captivating audiences with his energetic performances. His songwriting contributions to the industry have been extraordinary, with notable successes like Morgan Wallen's "More Than My Hometown" and Sam Hunt's "Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s."
As a solo artist, Ernest has released a string of impressive singles, including "Cheers," "American Rust," and the powerful duet "Flower Shops" with Morgan Wallen. These releases have solidified his position as a promising talent in the country music landscape.
Ernest's story is one of resilience, passion, and artistic evolution. From his early influences to his journey through adversity, he has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. With his distinctive sound, captivating lyrics, and undeniable talent, Ernest is poised to leave an enduring mark on the world of country music.
Fan reviews:Setlist for the show at the Moody Center
Ernest, a true country music talent. Short but sweet, this was by far not only the best show I’ve seen but the best music performance I’ve had the privilege of experiencing in years!
Wow! What a perfect venue for this style of concert I knew that artist would be good, but I wasn’t anticipating them exceeding and blowing away my expectations. I got tickets merely because I had no other concerts planned and I needed one on the books I could have made a better decision.
So much fun! My husband and I got Ernest tickets for something to do on a Saturday night and ended up having an absolute blast! The show was entertaining. It was the perfect mix of Earnest's songs, songs he wrote, and great covers (Toby Keith and John Mayer, yea!) The band was fantastic! These guys are total pro's at crowed engagement. Will see again!
Fantastic and entertaining! Ernest was awesome to see. Played a big variety of music that kept us entertained the entire evening.
Ernest is amazing and then some. Five stars across the board. Will definitely be seeing him again best show this concert season by far. Wow! Such an amazing show! Did not disappoint. VIP was super informal and felt like you were hanging out with pals at a backyard BBQ.
Great show! Ernest was awesome. This guy is very talented and has amazing stage presence, very interactive with the crowd, entertaining and would see them again if the opportunity came up!
