From a small town in rural Texas to the bustling music scene of Los Angeles, the trio Return to Dust has quickly made a name for itself by unapologetically channeling the spirit of 90s grunge. Composed of Matty Bielawski on rhythm guitar and vocals, Graham Stanush on bass and vocals, and Sebastian Gonzalez on lead guitar, the band has meticulously crafted a sound that pays homage to giants like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden while infusing their own modern, unvarnished energy.
Their journey began with the raw, emotional power of their debut EP, The Black Road, a project that captured the feelings of culture shock and the anxiety of a pandemic. Now, with a self-titled debut album and a new EP, they are proving that their sound is not just a tribute to the past, but a genuine, evolving force in rock music. They have struck a chord with a new generation of listeners, proving that the raw, introspective themes of grunge are as relevant as ever.
To see Return to Dust live is to witness a band on the brink of something big. Their current tour supporting Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace is the perfect stage for their raw, high-octane performance. As they step out, they bring a palpable hunger and an authentic connection to the music that feels rare in the modern era. The band's performance is a tight, cohesive unit, with Matty and Graham’s vocal harmonies creating a haunting, layered sound that is instantly reminiscent of the grunge era's best. Sebastian's lead guitar work is both precise and punishing, weaving sharp riffs and melodic solos that command attention.
The setlist is a thrilling showcase of their growing catalog, featuring fan favorites like "Black Road" and "Belly Up," which hit with a ferocious energy that gets the crowd moving. They balance their heavy moments with a brooding, melodic intensity, proving their versatility and range. The audience, many of whom are there for the headlining acts, is quickly won over, drawn into the band's authentic and powerful performance. Return to Dust isn't just opening the show; they are leaving a lasting impression, winning over new fans with every riff and every lyric. This tour is a crucial step in their career, cementing their reputation as a band that is not only honoring the past but also shaping the future of rock music. They are a welcome, gritty breath of fresh air.
Fan reviews:Setlist for the show at the Moody Center
Saw these guys for the first time, best show, can't wait to see them again!
These dudes are amazing! I've seen them twice now and they're always very humble and kind, and their music is electrifying the first time I saw them was so amazing that I had to immediately go and buy tickets again! I'm already looking into going a third time.
Return to Dust set was tight, they have a sound that I have been missing. After their first song, I added them on Spotify. Met them at the merch table and was so impressed with how kind they were. Really nice guys. I hope we get to see them again soon.
